"Glasgow development to include floating offices"
A floating leisure village containing new office space has been proposed for Glasgow's Canting Basin.
A proposed new development announced by Scottish Enterprise this week could provide businesses with a novel way to rent offices in Glasgow.
The organisation said British firm Floating Concepts has been hired to transform the Canting Basin docks area into a "floating leisure village", which will include offices, shops and residential properties.
Designed by ZM Architecture and specialist architects Baca Limited, the £30 million development is expected to create up to 450 jobs and provide a prime waterfront destination for Scotland's largest city.
"The iconic nature of a floating village will turn the Canting Basin into a major attraction quite unlike any other in the world," said Floating Concepts chief executive David Beard.
According to the proposals, firms seeking office space in Glasgow at the site will be able to choose from units ranging in size from 1,000 sq ft to 3,500 sq ft.
Floating Concepts intends to submit an outline planning application to Glasgow City Council as soon as possible.
The Canting Basin is located on the south side of the River Clyde and covers five hectares of water next to Pacific Quay, where the new BBC Scotland headquarters opened in 2007.
